Today's Learning Goals
1.
Understand the basic principles of and major arguments in Aldo Leopold's "Land Ethic" and evaluate the strengths and limitations of the "Land Ethic" as a legitimate environmental ethic.

2. Understand the major types of environmental ethics and begin to reflect on your personal envt ethic.

Listen to EPISODE 1 of the "Everything is Connected" Podcast
  • What does "rewilding" mean?
  • What pieces of evidence did this podcast provide to defend the claim that "everything is connected"?
  • How would this concept change the way we interact with the land?

Class Biz
  • If you got your happiness and meaning grade from me last Tuesday, your refinements were due today!
  • Honors seminar tomorrow during X-block. Please have completed the seminar prep packet and the entirety of Cat's Cradle
  • Camping trip updates
  • Camping trip planning group-- we'll meet again WEDNESDAY during lunch
  • No homework this week unless you don't finish in-class activities!!  However, we do have a test on Thursday so be sure you understand the readings as well as all terms and big ideas in the Envt. Ethics powerpoint. The test will be open-note.
  • If you were absent Friday, be sure to get the note-taking guide from Ashley and review slides #1-8.

  • Whole class discussion: We'll break down the major parts of his argument, step-by-step and then end by evaluating the strengths and limitations of Leopold's Land Ethic!  Take notes in the margins of your reading to help you better understand the arguments and aid you during the test
